Obituary

Bill Wong was born on January 15, 1958, in China. He spent the first 10 years of his life in Hong Kong until he immigrated to the United States with his parents and younger sister, Susan, in 1968 and lived in Queens. Bill studied chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate education, but subsequently pursued a graduate degree in finance at Cornell University. He then worked at various companies in financial and investment capacities before transitioning to budget and administration roles in university settings, most recently at Adelphi University. In September 1990, Bill married Joanne after they had finished their graduate studies and settled in their careers. They were blessed with two daughters, Amanda and Allison, whom they raised together in Long Island. Bill was a wonderful husband and father, and he was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. All who knew Bill said that he always greeted them with a warm smile and made them feel welcome with his compassionate and caring nature. He was an engaging conversationalist who had a love of music, and enjoyed playing his electric guitar in his spare time. Bill had a humble spirit and strong Christian faith, and he was confident that he would enjoy God's presence in heaven when his time on earth was done. He served as a small group leader at North Shore Community Church for the past 14 years and enjoyed leading inductive Bible studies with those who attended. C.S. Lewis, J.I. Packer and John Stott were among his favorite Christian authors. He was a great teacher and had great joy imparting his theological knowledge to the group members.
