IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William F.
Evans
December 25, 1937 – August 29, 2023
William F. Evans, 85, was the devoted husband of Anne Evans throughout 63 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Carol Evans and Kathryn Evans Bernstein and grandfather of Daniel and Emily Bernstein. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Son of Frederick Evans and Marie Jezek Evans, and brother of Frederick E. Evans, Jr., William grew up in Whitestone, Queens. He graduated from Bayside High School in 1955, where he was a member of the swim team. He married Anne Davies in 1960. He and Anne moved to East Norwich in 1963, where they have lived ever since. William was a Vice President at Heer Metal Works, a sheet metal prototyping company in Long Island City, which he operated with his father and brother. For many years, William and Anne volunteered at Planting Fields Arboretum. At one point, William used his business skills at Planting Fields to run a second-hand bookstore to benefit the arboretum. He was also a member of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society, where he often volunteered to run informational tables at their events. In retirement he and Anne spent winters in Los Angeles with their daughter and family. An active man of many interests, William enjoyed rock and mineral collecting and antiques. A keen cyclist, for years he rode with the Suffolk County Bicycle Riders Association.
He served as treasurer of the association and often led rides. He enjoyed hiking into his seventies.
William leaves a legacy of service to his family and to his community in Oyster Bay.
