Obituary

Richard Pyres, 79, of Burgaw, North Carolina and Tobique First Nations, Canada, passed away

on June 27th 2023 early in the morning with his wife by his side. Richard was born on January

13th 1944 to John and Frances in Queens, New York. However, he grew up and raised his own

family in Oyster Bay, New York. After Richard graduated from St. Dominic's High School in

1962, he went on to serve in the U.S Air Force. He retired from the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant.

Following his time in the Air Force, Richard served 25 years as a correctional officer for the

Nassau County Sheriff's Department, earning the title of Lieutenant. In 1965, Richard met his

one and only love Marie at a dance up on base, and three months later on February 19th 1966

they got married. They were married 57 years. Richard and Marie went on to have two children,

Christopher and Paul. Richard is known for his kind, compassionate, and servant attributes. He

was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. To his grandchildren (Macy, Chase, Grace,

Kainen, and Kenzie) he was known as Momo, teaching them how to ride bikes, drive cars,

manage finances, and most importantly, how to be a great person. Richard is predeceased by his

father John, mother Frances, son Paul, and brother Terry. Richard is survived by his wife Marie,

son Christopher (Michele), sister in law Jayne, niece and nephew Terrence and Theodora,

Grandchildren Macy, Chase, Grace, Kainen, and Kenzie, and countless close friends.
