Obituary

Pierre P. Brandt Sr. 91, passed away peacefully January 15, 2020. Pierre was born April 12th 1928 in Mandeure, France. The son of Ada and Paul Brandt and was one of six children, siblings Paulette, Jacqueline,Andre, Jean, Paul. Pierre boarded the ship "Liberte" in 1954 at the age of 26and came to America. He settled in Oyster Bay which was his home until his passing. He met and married the love of his life Lucia Cardinale and this year they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Besides his loving wife he leaves his daughter Regina Rettig, son Pierre Jr, daughter-in-law Cecily and his adoring three grandchildren, Lauren Rettig, Paul and Jacqueline Brandt. He served in the French army and was a welder for Peugeot in France before he decided to seek a better life here. He worked for Powers Chemco in Glen Cove and retired as Facilities Manager in 1988.  After retirement he enjoyed numerous hobbies includling horticulture, bird breeding, and his greatest passion wood carving.  He was a member of the Long Island Wood Carvers Association, winning many blue ribbons and other awards. He also was a very talented gourmet cook and catered many parties of very high standards. He loved to read, garden, fish, sing, dance and could whistle like a bird. His French accent never left him, and neither did his charming personality. Give him a glass of French wine, a good piece of cheese, and a loaf of bread a he could tell you stories of his childhood experiences all night long, and you'd never tire hearing them. He was a great presence and a special person, Pierre loved people and people loved him, he was everyone's "Uncle Pierre" and will be missed. A funeral mass is scheduled to celebrate his life on Saturday January 25th at St Dominic's Chapel, 93 Anstice Street in Oyster Bay, NY. at 10:30 a.m. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, honor Pierre by spending time in nature with your loved ones creating indelible memories.
