IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paula Gertrude
Colton Woods
November 7, 1931 – November 11, 2023
Paula Gertrude Colton Woods, a longtime resident of Oyster Bay, NY (52 years) and Oronoque Village in Stratford, Connecticut (39 years), entered eternal rest on Saturday November 11, 2023.
Born Paula Rothmann, she was the daughter of the late Paul & Gertrude Rothmann, former owners of Rothmann's Inn in East Norwich, NY. She was also the younger sister of the late Rita Rothmann Curran and Gloria Rothmann O'Rourke. She had just turned 92 years old.
Over the years she would recount with great joy memories from her childhood in Oyster Bay and teenage years at St. Dominic's High School. At her core she was a beautiful, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother,
sister, aunt, and friend. Paula graduated from St. Dominics High School in June of 1949 and attended Paine
Hall School in Manhattan, NY. She worked at Meadowbrook Hospital on Long Island as a technician in the pathology department before marrying her first husband, and true love, William Orton Colton in August of 1953. They had 17
blissful years together and welcomed four children William Jr., Glenn, Mona, and Colette.
During her life she endured the painful, premature loss of her first husband Bill in 1971 and later her son Glenn in 2003; she handled these unimaginable tragedies with grace and dignity.
Paula was married to her second husband, the late Allan I. Woods, for 42 years during which time they traveled and enjoyed many active years at their homes in Oronoque Village, CT and Venice, FL. Living in Stratford, Paula was a communicant of St. Marks Church, and an avid bridge and tennis player.
She is survived by her son William O. Colton, Jr. of Derry, NH, and two daughters, Mona and husband Louis of Boxford, MA, and Colette and husband Tony of Severn, MD. In addition to her children,
Paula is also survived by her five grandchildren, Caleb West, Ceanne Fusting and husband Steve, Caroline
Rennier, Margeaux Guercia, and Nicole Guercia, and two great grandchildren, Colton Fusting, and Dylan Fusting.
