Marie Benazzi Marie Anne Benazzi (nee Licata) died in Florida on June 19, 2013, at the age of 97. She had been a highly respected third and fourth grade teacher in Syosset for almost 30 years, retiring in 1984. Her students will remember her wonderful sense of humor and her warm understanding of children. She lived most of her adult life on Audrey Avenue in Plainview with her beloved husband, Leo, who passed away in 1985, and her three daughters, Lenore (married to Lawrence DiBlasi), Kathleen (married to Peter Forde) and Joanne (widow of Joel Friedland). Marie, born and raised in Corona, New York, was the first in her family to attend college, earning two Masters of Arts degrees. She represented the Corona Board of Trade as "Miss Corona" at the 1939 World's Fair. Marie is survived by her daughters and their husbands, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
