Obituary

Gloria Bruschini Gloria Theresa Bruschini, age 85, resident of East Norwich, NY died peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2014 after a long struggle with cancer. Gloria was born on September 2, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of and Ignacio Lopez and Mary Toro-Lopez. She grew up in Brooklyn with her younger brother Edward and sister Carmen. The three siblings graduated from Flushing High School. Gloria continued her studies at St. Joseph's College in Queens and received a Bachelor's degree. Shortly after graduation, in 1950, she married John Angelo Bruschini and the couple lived in Brooklyn for several years. John and Gloria had their first two children, Mary (1951) and John (1953) and moved a few years later to their new home in East Norwich. Sons Paul (1963) and Michael (1965) were born and raised with their siblings in East Norwich. All four Bruschini children graduated from Oyster Bay High School. While raising her family, Gloria pursued her love of music and languages by performing, studying and teaching. She played piano and sang beautifully. Gloria joined several groups including the The Port Singers in Port Washington, the Sea Cliff Players and the Long Island Choral Society. A mezzo soprano, Gloria performed in opera productions including Cosi Fan Tutte, The Mikado and Cavalleria Rusticana and in musicals including HMS Pinafore. Gloria completed her Master's degree at C.W. Post College and worked as both a full time and substitute teacher in area schools for twenty years. Gloria taught a range of subjects and grade levels but specialized in the Spanish language, in which she was fluent. Gloria and her husband John shared a deep love for opera. As parents they instilled their love for music in all their children. Gloria was surrounded by music until her last day. A devoted mother and grandmother, wonderful cook, fine pianist and accomplished singer, Gloria will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Gloria Bruschini is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and John Aitken, her children, Mary, John and Paul Bruschini, her much-adored granddaughters, Madeline and Elena Bruschini, her daughters-in-law Danielle and Jesse Bruschini, as well as many nieces and nephews. Gloria is predeceased by her husband, John, son Michael and brother Eddie. Funeral Information The family will receive friends Thursday, May 8th, at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, 293 South St., Oyster Bay, NY in Oyster Bay from 2-4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 9th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Dominic's Chapel, 93 Anstice Street, Oyster Bay, NY.
