Obituary

Mrs. Dolores Tveter Dolores Tveter died at Huntington Hospital mid -morning Monday, April 2, 2012 after paramedics' attempts to revive her at her home failed. She was 76. The cause was complications from a series of long illnesses. Born July 18, 1935 in Jersey City, NJ to Albert Romano and Evelyn Boyd Romano, Dolores spent her life in the Tri-State area and was married to husband, Harry Tveter, January 3, 1969 in Brooklyn, NY. Between them they had four young children at the time. The couple moved from Brooklyn to Holbrook then to Floral Park and Jackson, New Jersey. They returned to Long Island in Huntington four years ago. Dolores had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid and accomplished needle-worker who also enjoyed painting, ceramics and singing. She found great joy in creating art and comfortable surroundings for the pleasure of her friends and family but her greatest energy and pride were vested in her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She was also an excellent cook, a talent she attributed to her father's work as a chef for famed comedian Jackie Gleason. An active member and President of the Sachem Schools Parent Teacher Association for many years, Dolores was also the Founding Director of the Sachem School District Cultural Arts program in the mid-1970's - a program that continues today. Dolores, despite decades of debilitating pain from injuries caused by a car accident, maintained a quick wit and engaging sense of humor. She possessed a warm, generous spirit and a heart filled with unconditional love. Dolores is survived by her husband, Harry Tveter (82) and children, grandchildren: Eric Tveter (53), his wife, Terry and grandson, Ryan Tveter (17); Denise LaPoint (52) and her husband, David; Kim Tveter (49); Gina Zalud (48) and granddaughters, Emily Zalud (21) and Phoebe Zalud (19). DeVine Funeral Home on Friday April 6, 2012 between the hours of 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral Memorial Service Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. 61 East Main Street, Oyster Bay.
