Kenneth Jackson Polk
, 22, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, as
the result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Kenny, a native of the Eastern Shore, was a 2007 graduate of Stephen
Decatur High School where he was a devoted member of the football and
track teams. He then attended McDaniel College in Westminster, Md.,
where he studied biology, played football and ran track. Kenny spent a
semester abroad studying and enjoying the beauty of New Zealand in
2010 before graduating from McDaniel College in the spring of 2011.
Kenny volunteered his time working at the University of Maryland Shock
Trauma Center in Baltimore and a health clinic in Westminster and was
a certified first responder. He was employed by the Cold Spring Harbor
Laboratory in New York and was attending classes at SUNY Old Westbury
in preparation for entering medical school and becoming a doctor. He
also talked of joining the Peace Corps. He loved nature and wanted to
do something with his life that would have a positive impact on the
world.
Kenny was the beloved son of Pamela R. Polk of Berlin and the late
Kenneth R. Polk of Westbury, New York. He was loved and will be deeply
missed by his sister Charlene (Chris) Sharpe of Laurel, Del. and
grandmother Wynn Powers of Oyster Bay, New York.He will also be missed
by aunts and uncles Lynn (Kevin) Finn, Jack (Theresa) Powers and Ted
(Linda) Polk of New York and Phil (Rose) Polk of Texas as well as
cousins 2nd. Lieutenant Charles Finn of Washington, D.C., Peter, Sally
and Wendy Finn and Alexandra Powers of New York. He will be deeply
missed by girlfriend Kristin Wineman of New York and many, many
friends.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Ted and Anne Polk and John
Jackson Powers.
Funeral Information
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. at
Christ Church of Oyster Bay, 61 East Main St., Oyster Bay, NY.
