Mr. Jeremiah Martin Daly Jeremiah Martin Daly of Hampton Bays, New York born 12-21-38 -died 02-23-16 Jeremiah Martin Daly passed away peacefully in his home on Feb 23,2016, with his favorite girl aka (his dog Annie) by his side in Hampton Bays, New York. He was the eldest son of the late, Jeremiah Francis Daly and Grace Elizabeth Daly (Betty) and beloved brother of the late John Daly.He leaves behind a huge legacy, his sisters Joan Herschlein, Bette Daly, Kathleen Daly and brother Brian Daly, and children who will forever call him their "hero". He was the adored Father of Erin Spano (Daly),of Lindenhurst, NY, Sean Daly,of Hampton Bays, NY, Jocelyn Daly of Wainscott, NY and Jerelyn Daly, Key Largo, Florida and Jeremiah Daly of Deer Park New York. Father in law of Carlo Spano and Lori Bolina Daly. He had 4 grandchildren Jackilee M.W.Cruz, Albert M Palmer,Tara DiMaio, Kristilyn Daly, and three great grandchildren Jaden and Oliver Cruz, Reily Palmer, and Liliana DiMaio and not to mention, grandchild ren by marriage: Alyssa Pisani, Valerie Pisani,Frank Spano, Vincent Spano and Nicole Ortiz (all of them called him grandpa too). He will forever be our hero Jeremiah (Jerry) was a very proud retired Detective Sergeant with the Old Brookville Police Department, Glen Head, NY. from August 16,1959 until August 17,1979. He received numerous awards including Five Certificates of Excellent Police Duty, and Seven (7) Meritorious Policy Duty Service Awards for outstanding service. Jeremiah solved numerous crime, and arrested a "most wanted" bank robber fugative during a stake out whereby he used his 1931Packard as a decoy. He solved numerous crimes, including heinous rapes that occurred at C.W Post College, and he prevented many robberies from occuring based up quick observation. He told his daughter Erin, that he often "gave chances" to those who made mistakes and were sorry for their actions. In fact, she has a copy of a letter from a young man who actually thanked him for arresting him dated June 28, 1972. It states "a year ago I was arrested, and probably would have killed myself, if not for Detective J. Daly who "saved my life, something he valued more than I, did at the time". The letter was written to the chief of police, Chief Capabianco! Jeremiah solved many mysteries and many burglaries, and he was the first responding officer at the Lawrence Lever "Millionaire homicide" in Old Brookville. After retiring from the Old Brookville Police Department, He opened Bridgehampton Plumbing in Bridgehampton, NY.. He went on to become one of the proprietors of Bobby Vans Restaurant in Bridgehampton, and then subsequently became the owner of the Old Mill Restaurant in Mattituck New York. He has recently been retired, and spent much of his time with being a very proud father of five children, and very adored grandpa and Pop Pop. His claim to fame is a song that was written for him by a band known as Blackmore's night. The song is calle "The old mill inn", in it, it says we'll have a cheer cause Jerry's here..down at the old mill inn. He was very big fan of Ritchie Blackmore and his wife Candice and was very honored that they wrote that song for him and his restaurant... Jeremiah Daly will forever be our hero! Jeremiah was also a member of the United States Naval Reserve C.B Battalion (Huntington) where he received honorable discharge in 1963. He served the Navy reserves along side of his brother John who predeceased him. Jeremiah was a collector of old cars, he loved fishing, boating and restoring just about anything. He loved telling jokes, and he made the best pancakes ever. Aside from his immediate family, he is also survived by his former wife and dear friend Lynn Daly and Peter Donohue, his niece's, his nephew's and all his extended family by marriage and friendship, his dear friends, Rocco Panaro and the Entire Filasky Family. Funeral Information Services at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass Saturday at St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Glen Cove at 10:30 a.m.
