Margaret M. Lister, age 72, passed away peacefully on July 3 after a long illness. She died at the Hospice House in Northport with her husband Bill at her side after having spent the week surrounded by family.
Margaret married Bill in 1973 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cathedral in Rockville Center. They settled in Laurel Hollow, living right above St. John's Church on Woodgreen Way, raising two children. Proud of her Irish heritage they began raising their family in the Catholic Church, but joined St. John's in the late 1970s. They embraced their new community wholeheartedly. Margaret found meaning through her involvement in many of the church's ministries, especially the Hunger and Outreach work and the Healing Ministry. Through the church she also became involved with Save the Children for many years, in particular the annual polo match.
She is survived by her husband William H., daughter Jennifer Mara, son William III and granddaughter Regan.
A grave side burial service will take place at St. John's Memorial Cemetery in September. In lieu of flowers, Margaret's family requests that donations be made to St. John's Church in her memory.
Please join us in prayer for Margaret and her family and friends:
O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our sister Margaret. We thank you for giving her to us, her family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your servant Margaret, and grant her an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
