June 30, 1932 – September 18, 2024
Margaret "Peggy" Hesse of Bayville, NY passed peacefully on September 18 at 92 years of
age surrounded by family and friends. Beloved wife of the late Alfred (Ace), devoted mother to CDR
William F. Hesse, USN (RET) (Kathy), loving grandmother to Mary Katheryn Coker (Bobby) and
LT W. Patrick Hesse, USN (Carina) and adored great-grandmother to Robert "Rory" Clinton
Coker JR.
She was a lifelong Bayville resident and Alumni of St. Dominic High School and
Misericordia University School of Nursing. Peg went onto be a Certified Registered Nurse
Anesthetist and worked in several hospitals including Glen Cove, St. Vincent's Medical Center in
Staten Island, Winthrop Hospital, Southside Hospital, Brookhaven, and several others. While
she worked at Glen Cove, she was the Nurse Anesthetist for Roy Campanella of the Brooklyn
Dodgers, with whom she formed a lifelong friendship.
Peggy was avid swimmer, growing up as the lifeguard at Reinhardt's in Bayville. She was a
lifelong parishioner and member of the St. Gertrude's Rosary Guild. She enjoyed the summers
of Bayville and enjoyed taking a ride in the Long Island Sound aboard her boat, Irish Thunder.
In her younger days, she loved to ski with her family in Vail, CO. Later in life, she become
involved with The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where recently the Margaret
F. Hesse CRNA Nursing Classroom in the Swain School of Nursing was named in her honor.
Family and Friends may visit on Sunday 4- 8 p.m. at Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home Inc.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Gertrude RC Bayville on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
Followed by internment at Locust Valley Cemetery.
