Obituary

LOUIS VINCENT AQUILINO It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Louis Vincent Aquilino ("Louie") of Longs, South Carolina. He passed peacefully onto his next life on Tuesday, January 19, at the age of 86 with his beloved family by his side.  Louis was born in Oyster Bay, New York on September 15, 1934, to father Daniel Aquilino and mother Elvira Yanotti. Louis leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Maureen Delores Aquilino; one son, Timothy Michael Aquilino; daughter-in-law, Polly Ann Aquilino; and 3 precious grandchildren, Joshua Kidwell and Timothy Michael Aquilino, Jr. of Edgewater, Maryland and Haley Carol Kuffler of Laurel, Maryland. He is also survived by 4 siblings, Daniel Aquilino and family, Mickey Aquilino and family, Vincent Aquilino and family, Betty Ann Aquilino and family and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends that he cherished. He is preceded in death by 6 siblings, Joe Aquilino, Sal Aquilino, Trudy Rossetti, Dorothy Gompers, Anthony Aquilino, and Bubby Aquilino.   Louis was a Union Electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 25). He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He joined the Atlantic Steamer Fire Co. #1 in Oyster Bay, New York in 1958 and served as Fire Chief from 1967-1969. Contributing his time and service to the community of Oyster Bay was always at the heart of his passion. Louis had strong faith and believed that serving others was his privilege. He cherished his family with everything he had and would not miss an opportunity to do for them. His pride of his family shone through in the way he lived his life.   Old friends, new friends, and strangers that would become friends knew they could always count on Louis to help them, even before they asked. While his giving and doing for others is what he will be most remembered for, his work ethic was astounding and unmatched. Some would say it bordered on a bit of OCD, but if there was a job to get done, Louie was your man. Louis never stopped moving, it was always a goal of the family to get him to sit and chat for just 5 minutes. His friends from Oyster Bay, New York; to Mountain Top, Pennsylvania; to his most current home town of Longs, South Carolina loved Louie, not for the work or help he gave them but for the selfless and kind demeanor that bled from his being. A quote from a dear friend that will resonate with anyone that knew Louie, "No finer man ever walked the earth than Louie Aquilino". He will be reposing at the Atlantic Steamer Fire Co. #1, located at 20 East Main Street in Oyster Bay, New York. Friends and family are invited on February 2 from 5pm to 8pm and on February 3 from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm - 9pm.   The Funeral Services will be held on February 4 at 10am at Saint Dominic's Chapel in Oyster Bay, New York. Private Interment with Military Honors at  Calverton National Cemetery will immediately follow. To honor Louis's lifelong commitment to family and community, the family asks that donations be made to AHRC Nassau in his memory. The most significant way to honor Louis's memory is to show kindness, help someone along the way, and make a positive difference in someone's life. Masks are required for all services.
