Obituary

Kathleen Hamlin Brewer (Kathy) passed away on October 12, 2023, at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Kathy known for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to children, touched the lives of countless individuals during her lifetime. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Born and raised in Garden City, New York to Francis Bacon Hamlin (Ham) and Kathleen Bleecker Ripsom (Kay) she developed a lifelong love for family, community, and education.

Upon graduating from Colby Sawyer College, she married her husband of 57 years, David Remson Brewer, Jr. Their life together took them to Charlottesville, Rochester, New York City and finally to Oyster Bay where they would spend 42 years building a family, traveling the world and making lifelong friends.

Her professional life was dedicated to nurturing the minds and hearts of young children. For 30 years, she was the devoted founder and proprietor of St. John's Playgroup, a cherished establishment within the St. John's of Lattingtown community. Her creativity, spunk, and dedication left an indelible mark on her students and their families. Upon retiring, she continued to serve young people by volunteering for The Daughter's of the Cincinnati whose mission is to provide college scholarships to the daughters of military officers. She served back-to-back terms as President of this association.

Later in life, Kathy's heart connected with the mountains in Beaver Creek, Colorado, where she and David had a second home. She found joy and adventure in the Rockies, spending countless hours skiing, snowshoeing and playing golf. Back home in Oyster Bay she was an avid reader, jig saw puzzle enthusiast and bridge player. You could often find her at The Creek laughing and socializing with her beloved bridge group.

She is survived by her husband, David Remson Brewer Jr, daughter, Meredith Brewer Buggelli, son in law, Royce Buggelli and sister, Sally Hamlin Coates.

Kathy's beloved family dog, Pudge Heffelfinger, was a faithful and constant companion, offering unconditional love throughout the last 6 years. Her days began early for Pudge, most days at 5am when they would take their daily walk.
