Obituary

John Robert Bruckner, age 92, a long-time resident of Oyster Bay, NY, passed away unexpectedly in Sarasota, Florida, on December 9, 2021.  John was a graduate of Westbury High School in Westbury, NY, where he excelled in track.  He established Bruckner Carpentry and had a successful career as a general contractor on Nassau County's North Shore.  While still in high school, John built many homes in Levittown, NY, and years later restored Theodore Roosevelt's home, Sagamore Hill.  He was a proud American and a World-War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army in post-war Germany.       Among John's most important accomplishments was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Rebecca Bruckner, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Caterina Elia, and his granddaughter, Jacqueline Richter.  John was the beloved husband of Lucy for 65 years, and devoted father of John, Jr. (Patricia), Catherine (Dr. James) Inzerillo, Lorraine (Dr. Richard) Richter, Patricia (Joseph DiRosa), and Robert (Stacy Borden).  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren whom he adored.       A devout Christian, John served as Trustee and President of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Glen Cove, NY, where he spent countless hours volunteering.  He enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow veterans and was Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8033, in Oyster Bay for many years.       John also served as Vice President of the Nassau County Police Boys Club and built the PBC building in Westbury.John had tireless energy and was always eager to help others.  He had a quiet confidence and a warm heart.  He also had a great sense of humor.  John cherished spending time with his family, while celebrating the accomplishments of his loved ones, watching the Mets, playing cards, and vacationing in Vermont.  He enjoyed adventures and visited Israel and Greece in recent years.  In his spare time, John also restored Model T Fords, which he often drove in Oyster Bay parades.             Visitation will be at the Francis P. Devine Funeral Home, 293 South Street, Oyster Bay, on Thursday, December 16th, from 7pm-9pm, and Friday, December 17th, from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm.  Funeral services will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church, 74 Forest Avenue, Glen Cove, on Saturday, December 18th, at 9am.  Burial services will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, NY.       In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 74 Forest Avenue, Glen Cove, NY 11542. https://www.trinitylutheranglencove.com/online-donations/
