Obituary

Joann Rose Guido- 1943-2024, peacefully on May 6, 2024, at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, New York. Age 80, Joann died with her children by her side. Beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her three children, Peter Halesworth, David Halesworth, and Valerie Halesworth, and seven grandchildren – Emily, Herschel, Harrison, Andrew, Gabriel, Nicholas, and Heston - who loved their "Grandma Jo." She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Peter C. Halesworth, three siblings, Mary Pisciotta, Rosaria (Sadie) Muschter, and Paul P. Guido, and her parents, Paul Guido and Rose (Bellina) Guido. The family owes a special debt of gratitude to Joann's brother-in-law, Paul R. Halesworth, for his loyal and lasting friendship until her death. A homemaker, Joann was known as a fiercely loyal mother, grandmother, guardian, and friend. She cared deeply for her three active children while juggling her occupation as a bookkeeper for several automobile service stations in her hometown of Syosset, New York, where she graduated from the high school. Joann's efforts launched her children to college. Well known to families in Oyster Bay and throughout Long Island as a "super fan" of youth sports, Joann's ringing bell was ubiquitous from the bleachers at games, and it was heard after every score by her child's team. Joann also excelled at keeping referees and umpires "informed" of events they missed during a game. She possessed a rare ability to "tell it like it is" while also giving reassurance that she had your back.

Friends may join Joann's family on Saturday, June 15 for a Celebration of Life service at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
