It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jill Laakso, of Bayville, NY on August 22, 2021 at 73 years of age. The daughter of Ione and Nels Laakso, Jill was raised in Dumont, NJ attending the Academy of the Holy Angels. She spent summers in Winona, MN with her beloved grandmother Mamie Diedrich, Aunt Marcella and Uncle Bernard Kalmas.  Jill was a creative and talented woman who graduated with a fine arts education degree from LIU Post. She dedicated her life to helping others, especially families and children while working at the Nassau County Department of Social Services. Jill gave 25 years of service to helping families of Long Island and her genuine care and concern for others always took priority. Jill was an amazing mother to her children, Drew Sokol (Emily Faria) and Stacy Daniels (Julian) and Grammy to Angelina, Rooster, Everleigh and Mila. Jill had a tremendous love for her family, especially her grandchildren. She always shared her passion of animals, gardening,  birding, cooking and nature with them. She was happiest while exploring in nature or preparing a meal with her family.  Jill will be remembered for her quick wit, direct delivery, sense of humor and ability to beat everyone at "words with friends".  The happiness she brought to others will never be forgotten.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
