Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jeanette Cameron, age 98, on June 1, 2026. Jeanette died peacefully in her home in Oyster Bay surrounded by her loving family.

Jeanette was the second of three children born in Brooklyn NY on August 6, 1927 to George and Sadie Boulbol. George and Sadie were immigrants from Aleppo, Syria, who built a successful quilting and garment business in NY. Jeanette grew up surrounded by a large and close knit Syrian-American family and community. She attended Catholic school throughout her childhood and this formed the basis of her deeply spiritual life. After high school, she worked side by side with her parents helping them to manage the business. Already fluent in Arabic, she picked up Spanish in the quilting factory and was beloved by the workers there. It is said she could fix any sewing machine and she became an outstanding seamstress.

Jeanette met the love of her life, Charles Cameron, on the YMCA tennis courts in Brooklyn. They married on February 12, 1956 at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Brooklyn and soon moved to Huntington, Long Island. They were married for 32 years and welcomed four children - Charlie, Rich, Jeannie and Rob. Their home was filled with love, laughter, friends, flowers and an abundance of food. Jeanette had many talents, but chief among them was an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome, valued and very well-fed.

Jeanette was an eternal optimist with an unshakable belief that everything would be better than ok. A three-time cancer survivor, she also endured several other surgeries and each time astounded the medical staff with her resilience, strength and humor. Jeanette loved life and people. She had boundless energy and made every occasion more fun. Her ten grandchildren became her greatest joy - and the infectious laughter they always shared left an indelible mark on their childhoods.

Jeanette is survived by her four children - Charles (Marisa) Cameron, Jr. of Garden City, NY, Richard Cameron of Oyster Bay, NY, Jeannie (Robert) Cameron Zech of Weston, CT and Robert (Melissa) Cameron of Centerport, NY; grandchildren Marisa (Matt) Gigliotti of Wayland, MA, Linda Cameron, Grace Cameron, Julianne Zech, Terrance Cameron, Aimee Cameron of New York, NY, Paige Cameron of Milwaukee, WI, Mariel Zech of Madison, WI, James Cameron and Carolyn Zech of Cambridge, MA. She was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She is pre-deceased by her parents George and Sadie, husband Charles and siblings Florence Guzzi and Anthony Boulbol.

A funeral mass will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 10am at the Church of St. Anne at 35 Dartmouth Street in Garden City, NY. A Celebration of Life will follow from 11am to 1pm at Garden City Country Club at 206 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, NY. Private interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
