Jane Montgomery of Oyster Bay died on June 23. Raised in Garden City, she attended GCHS and made lifelong friends at Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY. She earned her Master's Degree from Adelphi University and taught in the Locust Valley School District for 31 years. An avid traveler and adventurer, Jane visited all 7 continents and went skydiving on her 65th birthday. She adored seeing the monarch butterflies in Mexico and protecting the polar bears in Churchill, Canada. She loved celebrations, surprises, and sweets - often packaging up homemade cookies and sending them to her nieces away at college. She shared her huge heart through her years volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Road to Recovery, and the American Cancer Society. Her calligraphy and passion for needlepointing were admired by all who received or saw her creations. Known for her radiant smile, colorfully coordinated outfits and jewelry, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She will be dearly missed by her beloved baby brother, John D. McGarr, Jr., her adoring nieces, Katey and Eileen, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband William J. and her parents, John D. and Evelyn McGarr.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to ALS research.
