Obituary

Jamie Sweetbaum Archdeacon of Oyster Bay, NY quietly left us on July 21, 2020. She was 54. Jamie was born on June 2, 1966, to Alan and Beverly Sweetbaum, in New Rochelle, NY. From that moment on, she was the beloved younger sister of Terri Sweetbaum (Sneider) and Jodi Sweetbaum (Carse). She was incredibly funny, with a sharp wit that made you laugh all the time, even on tough days. She kept it real and told it like it was but was always kind and armed with sage advice. Jamie graduated from New Rochelle High School and Iona College, got married and moved to Oyster Bay where she stayed, after a divorce, to raise her two greatest loves, Cassidy and Caleb. Their lifelong happiness was the most important thing for her, and she attacked the puzzle of how to help make that happen with open heart, loving consideration and constant self-reflection. Jamie couldn't quite decide on a single path and so instead she tried all of them. She had been the owner of a moving business, a real estate agent, and a special education teacher—but in these last few years Jamie found her true passion as a set dresser for film. It combined her love for home decor with shopping, hunter-gathering, problem solving and not having to dress up to go to work. She joined the IATSE 52 union and loved her work crew like family. She was the snarky partner-in-crime to her nephew Andrew Sneider, the adored aunt of Tess, Taeo, Nick and Kai Carse, and the cherished sister-in-law to their father Jamie. She was the guest star at every Thanksgiving, making hundreds of the best mini pumpkin muffins ever. Jamie made lifelong friends everywhere she went—New Rochelle, Oyster Bay, Philadelphia. Her infectious smile will be missed on their weekly Zoom calls, over last-minute dinner dates, and on days spent kayaking in the bay. Jamie shared with Cassidy and Caleb a keen sense of humanity and passion for what is supposed to be good and right in the world. She had hope that change would come if we all looked within and fought for our friends and family and the people who need our voices and support. In her memory, and in lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you take the time to perform small and big intentional acts of kindness, to pay it forward to those who need it or to simply make someone laugh, a deep, joyous laugh just like Jamie & #39's. That laugh will be missed greatly. We hope that in the summer of 2021 we will be able to have a celebration of Jamie's life. www.fpdevinefuneralhome.com
