James Joseph Trainor, 90, of Oyster Bay, NY and New Smyrna Beach, FL. passed away from kidney and heart failure on November 23, 2022, peacefully and surrounded by family and friends. Jim was born on September 25, 1932, to Frank and Margaret Trainor in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Brooklyn Preparatory School, he earned degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, NY and, after having seven children, earned a law degree from St. John's University. Jim retired at age 62 after working 26 years in licensing and patent prosecution at AT&T/Lucent. In his retirement, he spent half the year on Long Island, NY enjoying their grandkids and half the year in NSB enjoying the sun until 2018 when he moved permanently to NSB. He married the love of his life, Delia Casserly, on September 18, 1954. They were married 64 years and had 11 children together. Delia passed away in October 2018, and Jim married his surviving spouse, Marybeth Krolik, in December 2020.
Jim was a devout Catholic, a member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of the Irish American Club. Jim was larger than life, a generous and loving father to his 10 children and grandfather to his 34 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. His favorite hobby was remodeling old and new houses. He loved to read, dance, listen to Irish music, watch Fox news and brag about his children and his high school football days. He will be missed by so many. Jim was predeceased by his mother and father, Frank and Margaret Trainor; brothers, Frank and Eugene Trainor; and sisters, Margaret Connelly and Katherine Bernardo; wife, Delia Trainor; and son, Gerard Trainor. He is survived by his children: James Trainor Jr.; Paul Trainor; Marge and Russ Galtieri; Delia and David Grant; Susan and Doug Etts; Frank and Susan Trainor; Chris and Nina Trainor; John and Maureen Trainor; Steven and Donna Trainor; Elizabeth and Steven Stanek; grandchildren: James and Thomas Trainor; Anthony Guagliardo; Toni Trainor; Daniel, Jeremy and Jason Galtieri; Kristy Bamburak; Jamie McCall; Scott, David, and Mark Grant; Delia Garrison; Douglas, Arden and Shannon Etts; Ashley and Tyler Trainor; Christopher, Matthew and Nicolas Trainor; John, Michael, Colin and Katelyn Trainor; Declan, Liam, Cael, Maggie and Brigid Trainor; Alex, Riley, Sam, Lily, and Ruby Stanek; and great grandchildren: Caeden Galtieri; Danielle and Taylor Bamburak; Kaylee, Lainey and Braydon McCall; Emerie Grant and Grayson Garrison.
Visitation Services will be held at Francis P. Devine Funeral Home, 293 South St., Oyster Bay, NY on
Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. The mass of Christian Burial will be held at the chapel St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 93 Anstice Street, Oyster Bay at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 5, 2022.
