James Demetrios Kaloudis was many different things to many different people. To me, he was my dad.To a friend or two of mine, he was like a father to them too.To my mother, he was always her beloved Jim.To my kids and their cousins, he was Papu Jim.To my grandmother, Olga, no matter how old he was, he was still Jimmy.To his relatives, he was a historian, a great story-teller and one of the most interesting and well-read people they've ever met. (T. Kolefas) To the many different companies he worked for over the years, he was a well-respected and accomplished lighting engineer, easily identified by his trademark bowtie.To his church, he was a fellow congregant, ever struggling to live in the way of Christ.To the US Navy, he was an Aviation Electronics Engineer, Third Class, who was ready for action on the flight deck at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. To the US Cycling team, he was a champion cyclist who twice nearly went all the way to the Olympics, but unlike many of his peers, refused to take steroids to get there.To the inline skating community, he was a top skater who could beat anyone within roughly 20 years of his age class.To the burly guys in the gym, he was one of, if not the oldest dudes there still lifting the iron, reminding us that if he can still do it, so the hell could we. In all these ways, we are reminded not to mourn the loss of Jim Kaloudis but rather, to celebrate his long life of many achievements and be ever motivated to seek out our own. /Jason Kaloudis (Son)
