James Francis Gill, age 80, formally of Oyster Bay, New York passed away peacefully on September 3, 2021, after a long illness. James was born in Brooklyn, New York to William and Lillian Gill (Prior) on January 28, 1941. He grew up in Queens, New York, followed by East Williston on Long Island. He is survived by his adoring sisters and their husbands, Kathleen and John Hogan, and Mary Ellen and Mike Fitzgerald. James is preceded by his cherished brother, Dennis Gill, who passed away two weeks prior, on August 20, 2021, and his loving wife, Barbara Gill (Evans) on January 29, 1980. James is also survived by his loving daughters and their husbands, Christine and William Minnear of Manorville, New York and Julie and Sean Dooley of Norton, Massachusetts. James took so much pride in his adoring grandchildren, Haley, Ashley, Kiera and Brogan. In addition, he is survived by his caring niece and nephews, Alicia, Bill, Tom, Dan, and Brian.James had a tremendous love and dedication for his family and was the happiest when they were all together. He was a Nassau County Court Reporter for 40 years and was highly respected as being one of the best in his field. His many other passions included traveling, going on countless train excursions, and attending his Railroad Enthusiasts club in Manhattan monthly. He had great satisfaction when walking, going downhill and cross country skiing, ice skating and dancing. James was the happiest when surrounded by family at his favorite vacation spot for over 50 years in Bridgton, Maine. James will be remembered as living life on his terms, for his excitement when telling jokes, and for his admiration and loyalty to his loved ones. He will be so greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Mass Friday, September 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M,at St. Dominic's Chapel in Oyster Bay, New York, with the burial at The Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, NY following the mass.
