Obituary

Helen Duggan, age 89, of Northport, New York, passed away on July 8, 2021 in Huntington, New York after a long illness. Helen was born in Manhattan, New York to Magdalena (nee) West and Nicholas Dittiger on June 1st, 1932.  She went to Christoper Columbus High School in the Bronx. Her sister, Caroline Pohlmann, was born when she was 11 years old and they have remained best friends over the decades. She worked as an executive secretary at Macy's New York from age 16 and had many fond memories of participating in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for many years. She married Jack Ferdinand Duggan on January 17, 1954 at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church. She served the very first guest at the iconic Pumpernickel's Restaurant in Northport, where she proudly wore the traditional dirndl for many years. She raised four devoted daughters who will miss her dearly. She was a homemaker extraordinaire, loved to cook, sewed her daughters' clothes and everything imaginable, loved to paint, was an avid gardener and enjoyed entertaining. She loved to travel and split her time between New York,  Pennsylvania and Hawaii where all her children reside. She was truly a wonderful woman. Her energy, sass, silliness, and candid demeanor was such a blast to be around. Everything she said was an epic quote. She was a proud American and staunch conservative. She was always the favorite mom and grandma to all she met. Helen is preceded in death by her husband Jack, son-in law Jerry and dear friend William Rosecrans. Helen is survived by daughters Debra Duggan-Takagi (Verne), Laura Mueller, Kathryn Suchy (Michael), Arlene LaRosa (Mario).
