Obituary

Gabriella Benvenuta Ryan (Nee Rossetto), a lifelong resident of Oyster Bay, NY, left this earth for Heaven on Monday April 20th, 2020, at the age of 87. Born December 31st, 1932, in Glen Cove, NY, she was the beloved daughter of architect Guiseppe Rossetto and oil painter Santina Rossetto. She grew up alongside her two siblings, Victoria and Michelangelo, and attended Oyster Bay's Saint Dominic's School for her early education. Upon graduating high school, Gabriella pursued a passionate post secondary education studying art and mathematics, graduating with a bachelor's degree from The College of New Rochelle, in New Rochelle, NY, as part of the class of 1954. This prepared her for her career as a statistician for the Long Island Lighting Company. Roughly six years after obtaining her college degree, she met her cherished husband of 52 years, Joseph Paul Ryan, who passed away August 14th 2013 at the age of 82. Following their wedding day on January 7th, 1961, Gabriella and Joseph began to forge a loving and warm family, birthing into the world seven treasured children, Mary Frances, Nancy Claire, Joseph Bernard, Judith Elaine, Pauline Marie, Teresa Margaret, and James Thomas. As a gifted artist and mathematician, Gabriella will be remembered as a creative and intelligent woman whose brilliant light of mind, heart, and spirit forever lit a path of grace for her loved ones. Throughout her life, she found great joy walking in nature, spending long summer days at the beach swimming and soaking in sunshine, and enjoying delicious meals with those close to her. She was a voracious reader and lover of art, music, and fashion. More than anything else in life, though, she adored connecting with her children and grandchildren, as well as her friends, including her brother-in-law, Msgr. James Ryan, her cousin Msgr. Peter Ryan, and her best friend Anne Marie Boyce. She is survived by two siblings, Victoria Marmora and Michelangelo Rossetto, her children and their spouses and partners, Mary & Alvar Garcia, Nancy & Peter Hoffmeister, Joseph & Janet Ryan, Judy Ryan & John Boschi, Pauline & William Kehrli, Teresa & Forrest Hamlin, and James Ryan, as well as her grandchildren Peter Hoffmeister & Kathleen Granados, Gabriel & Jennifer Garcia-Ryan, Christina Hoffmeister, Charlotte Ryan, Julia Ryan, Joseph Ryan, Emily Kehrli, Sara Garcia, Isabelle Kehrli, Margot Ryan, and Padric Hamlin, in addition to a host of other extended family members. Special thanks to her beloved youngest son, James Thomas Ryan, who was her devoted caregiver during her final years. Gabriella will be loved forever and a day..
