Clinton S. Smith on April 26, 2021. Lifelong resident of East Norwich, NY and 72-year member of the East Norwich Volunteer Fire Company, Ex-Chief and past president as well as past president of the East Norwich Firemen's Benevolent Association. During his tenure, Clint served on various committees, including the Board of Trustees. Clint worked for the Town of Oyster Bay for 35 years. He began as an arborist in 1957. During this time, he ran a mooring and towing company part time. In 1969, Clint was transferred to the Department of Beaches and appointed as the Town's first Harbor Master with Peace Office status. In this capacity, Clint was chairman of the Mooring Committee for Oyster Bay Harbor. He established a grid pattern for anchorage area and applied for a special anchorage for Oyster Bay Harbor through the US Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers. This mooring area included channel systems. After 20 years in this post, Clint was promoted to Supervisor of Waterways and Conservation until his retirement. Clint was also one of the founders and president of the Christeen Oyster Sloop Preservation Corporation from 1991 until 2002. This corporation was reactivated in 2009 with the replica of the Oyster Dreg "Ida May" at the Western Waterfront Center.
Clint is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Ann, his loving daughters Jennifer (Andrew) Loughlin and Tamara (Mark) Todd . His grandchildren Sarah, Heather, Mary and Kelly Loughlin, Christopher (Megan), Kyle and Laura Todd. Clint is also survived by his brother Roy (Margaret), his brother-in-law Robert Pepin and his loyal coffee buddy James Lehmann. Clint was a friend to all who knew him and will be missed by many.
Visiting with be at the East Norwich Volunteer Fire Company 900 Oyster Bay Rd on Thursday April 29, 2021 from 4pm-7pm. Military honors will take place at 4:30pm. Fire Company will hold Firematic services at 6:30pm. Masks are required.
