Bruce A. Korson, 79, of Nantucket, MA (formerly of Oyster Bay Cove, NY), died Saturday, April 18, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. Bruce was born in New York City on January 2, 1941 to Max and Rosalyn Korson. In his younger years, Bruce worked on the set design team for the Academy award-winning film Midnight Cowboy. He was also a partner of and a fabric designer at ID Fabrics and Wall Coverings in New York. After he married his wife, Jeanne B. Korson, in 1973, they relocated to Oyster Bay Cove, NY and bred boxers under the kennel name Laurel Hill Boxers. A particularly proud moment was when their boxer "Tiggin" won the Working Group at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 1991. Bruce was a president and member of the Board of the American Boxer Club Foundation in New York, as well as a founder of the AKC Canine Health Foundation. He and his wife were leaders in furthering canine health research and avid supporters of the Westbury Kennel Association and the Long Island Boxer Club. Bruce moved to Nantucket year-round following his wife's death in 1999 and turned his focus from the world of dog shows to that of the Nantucket community. He became a tireless fundraiser and supporter of various island organizations. Over the years, Bruce served on the Board of the Nantucket AIDS Network and served as gala chair. He also served on the Board of the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Thrift Shop and volunteered there for many years. As a patron of the arts, he served on the Board of the Artists Association of Nantucket and chaired the organization's gala for several years. Bruce never missed an opportunity to express how much he appreciated the depth and breadth of the island community and how fortunate he was to be a part of that community. Bruce was a fixture on Main Street in Nantucket and easily recognizable by his signature white hair. A true bon vivant, Bruce cherished friendship, love, laughter, good food and all things beautiful. He is survived by his longtime partner, Neil Romanski, of Nantucket, MA, and his son, Andrew, daughter-in-law, Meaghan and grandson, William, of Oyster Bay Cove, NY, and his cousin Arthur Novell, of New York, NY.
