IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betsy Lee
Murphy
September 18, 1943 – November 16, 2025
Betsy (Lee) Murphy, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on
November 16, 2025. She was born on September 18, 1943, and this year she and her husband,
James Murphy, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary—a partnership marked by enduring
love and deep devotion.
Betsy graduated from Molloy College, where she studied Education and made lifelong friends.
She paid her way through college waiting tables at Lauraine Murphy's, a job she loved for the
energy, camaraderie, and chance to care for people in small, meaningful ways. After college she
taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, nurturing young learners with patience,
creativity, and her signature warmth. Later,Betsy chose to dedicate herself fully to raising her
own children and to caring for many of the children of extended family and friends. Her
generosity was boundless; she lived her life in service of others, always ready with support,
encouragement, and an open door. On and off the Creek Club tennis courts, Betsy was the
steady force behind so many of the people she loved—a constant presence whose kindness
shaped countless lives.
Betsy will be remembered for her extraordinary capacity to give, her unwavering loyalty, and
her deep belief in the power of showing up for others. Her legacy lives on in those she
nurtured, supported, and fiercely loved.
Betsy is survived by James and by their three children—Suzanne (Murphy) Dumas, Kathryn
(Murphy) Rose, and Paul Murphy, — as well as her son-in-law Steve Dumas, her sisters-in-law
Peg Lee and Patricia Bailey, her brother-in-law Robert Murphy and her cherished grandchildren:
Quinn Dumas, Brendan Rose, Lauryn Rose, and Natalie Rose, each of whom brought her
immense joy.
Betsy was preceded in death by her son-in-law Bryan Rose, as well as by her four brothers Dick
Lee, Paul Lee, Steve Lee, and Fred Lee, and her parents, Kathryn (Schick) Lee and Joseph Lee.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Chapel of St. Dominic R.C.C., 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Betsy's favorite cause in her name
