Audrey Sommerhalter passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024 at the age of 94. Audrey was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She moved to Oyster Bay when she married Fred Sommerhalter in 1950 and lived on Kellogg Street for over 60 years. She loved her home and was proud to show off her entertaining and decorating skills at parties, cookouts and holiday gatherings. A talented artist, she displayed her beautiful work in her home. She learned to sew and had her own alterations business, as well as sewing costumes for her church's cantata and running a clothing ministry. She loved to learn. In later years she became proficient on her computer where she 'surfed the web', kept up with friends and family and made new friends. She loved her friends; she was the last of an Oyster Bay generation who were like family to her. She loved her beloved Scotties and collected anything and everything relating to the breed. But most of all, she loved her family. She and Fred created a beautiful home where they raised their children, Laura and Fred. Every holiday was spent with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and later grandchildren gathered around her table. This gave her so much joy. Audrey is predeceased by her husband, Fred and brother Thomas Finn. Audrey is survived by her children Laura Cacciato (Rick), Fred Sommerhalter (JoAnn); grandchildren Richard Cacciato, Matthew Sommerhalter (Kristin), Jessica Ruiz (Thomas), Suzanne Beirne (Joe); and seven great-grandchildren. A loving, generous and devout person, Audrey will be remembered and missed by anyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Arrangements are private.
