Obituary

Our angel, Adela Sotelo Acerra, 67, left us to heaven on September 16th, 2021 at Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, NY after battling AML Leukemia for nearly 2 years. She was born January 23, 1954, in Queens, NY to George and Martha Sotelo. She attended the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY. Adela lived in Queens, NY before settling in Wantagh, NY. Adela was employed by Grumman Aerospace out of college where she met her soon to be husband, Peter. Soon after getting married on October 8th, 1977, they started their family where she truly shined in her role as a mother to her four beautiful children. Adela loved more than anything spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she made it a priority to shower them with love any chance she got. She loved to celebrate life through music, food, travel, and spending time relaxing at her beach house. She was like the Sun, where her shining light radiated to everyone around her; where you could feel her positive presence and there was always happiness around her. Adela was a woman of great faith, and always instilled God in her everyday life and made it a priority to spread God to everyone she met, with particular importance in all the lives of her loved ones. Adela is survived by her beloved husband, Peter, their four children Alexandra, Amanda, Daniella and Peter Christian (as well as their spouses Eddie, Tomas, Rich and Kensi); and her grandchildren Valentina, Liliana, Richie, Luca, and Isabella. She is also survived by her three sisters Maria, Jessica, and Nancy (and their spouses Peter, Alex and Stephen). There will be a mass to honor Adela's life with family and friends - Monday, September 20, at 11:15am ET, at St. Frances de Chantal Roman Catholic Church in Wantagh, NY. The burial will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to fund the further research of AML Leukemia may be made in memory of Adela to the Leukemia Research Foundation. The family has entrusted DeVine Funeral Home Inc. in Oyster Bay, NY with the arrangements. Adela's legacy will live forevermore in the hearts and minds of her family and friends. She will be deeply and forever missed.
