Obituary for Rose LoBianco Murphy

Rose LoBianco Murphy, our family matriarch, passed on October 21, 2018. She was born in Oyster Bay, NY to Frank and Josephine LoBianco on June 12, 1928, the third of four daughters. Taught to fish and clam by her father, Rose also exceeded as a student athlete while at Oyster Bay High School, graduating in 1946. Choosing to forgo college and work to help support their family, Rose worked at Macy’s Herald Square in the Personnel Department. Living in Oyster Bay, the extended LoBianco family had the first Italian grocery store, two barber shops, a vegetable store, and a deli. Rose met her husband, Francis J. Murphy of Tooker Avenue, Oyster Bay, while at Walkers Bar over a discussion of her beloved Yankees. Frank courted Rose and they married in 1949. Raising their family of five on Kellogg Street, they remained there until retiring to Harmony, North Carolina in 1981. Rose participated in several Oyster Bay Civic groups. She was a founding member and Past President of the IHM Guild of St. Dominic’s Church, as well as a member of many other religious groups. She would later relocate to Poughkeepsie to be closer to her only daughter and to one of her sons. After several years in Poughkeepsie, Rose found herself moving to follow three of her sons to south Florida, settling first in Margate and then in North Lauderdale. Rose was always doing philanthropic work by volunteering to teach English as a Second Language, and with the Women in Distress Thrift store. She was a supporter of The Center for Development in Central America and several other organizations.Rose loved telling stories about her childhood and her family.
